One of my resolutions for this year is to be better about taking pictures and blogging about the happenings of each month. While I didn't take many pictures, I am blogging.... baby steps I guess.

Aiden started the year by attending Primary as the youngest Sunbeam. I thought that he would love it, but boy was I wrong. For the first three weeks he just cried that he wanted pretzels and treats. I am sure me being up in primary has not helped the situation. I think he has adjusted and likes being a big boy.

Aiden on his first day of Primary!

These two hooligans keep me hopping. Shelby thinks Aiden knows it all and does absolutely everything he does. Aiden dictates whether Shelby takes a nap, whether she will eat her food, and just about everything else. Everytime we walk out of the door, someone comments on how much they look alike. It is funny. We just cut Aiden's hair and Shelby's is starting to grow so maybe we won't get as many comments. If I don't have that girl decked out in pink and a bow in her hair most people think she is a boy.

And the most exciting news of all is that Shelby finally has a room! If you remember about 6 months ago I told you we were starting this project by spliting our master bedroom in half. Our two week project was grossly underestimated. Somehow Tyler managed to squeeze in framing and drywalling into his crazy schedule. Little does he know, we have only just begun. He is teaching me how to do it all and tells me that I am doing the rest of the house all by myself. But if any of you know Tyler, I son't think he would be able to let me do it. Unless it is perfect he wants to rip it down and start over, and he knows that I produce andything but perfect work. Anyway, here it is. I know it is a little loud and crazy so you may want to get some sunglasses before you scroll down.

Up next, our master bedroom. Tyler is rested up and ready to go. Hopefully it will be finished this month and you will see the masterpiece next month!

What we've been up to

You have probably been wondering if we are still alive. Well we are alive and well. We have had a busy summer of projects and playing. Here is our latest project.... This is our master bedroom, well half of it. It is an enormous room. It was originally two bedrooms, but the previous owner knocked down a wall. I need a bedroom for Shelby, so we are putting it back up. That sounds like a really easy job, right? I thought it would take a week or two. I failed to recognize all the work that needed to be done. The paneling needs to be taken off and the drop ceiling needs taken down. Of course there has to be plaster behind all of that so that needs to be taken out and then we can dry wall and put a wall up. I guess now I know why it has taken me a year to convince Tyler it was time to tackle this project.

Here is our ongoing project...The Yard. We started this in the spring. I know it still looks kinda messy but believe me it is an improvement of last year. We put in a new sprinkler system and took out a lot of grass to make lots of flower beds. I know it is hard to see but I am hopeful next year they will be packed with flowers.

Here is the other project that has swallowed a lot of my time, but is one of my most proud. My Garden. When I put the seeds in the ground I was not expecting anything to come up, but boy was I wrong. I have a garden people! I actually did it. Try not to notice the dead grass at the bottom of the picture (that's next years project, tyler just doesn't know it yet!) I have tomatoes growing on the vine. I have already picked a bowl full of peas, and a bucket full of summer squash (my favorite!). I also have carrots, beans, corn and pumkins. I also planted some cabbage, but got some pretty flowers instead (I swear that is what the package said, CABBAGE, oh well). Having a garden is a lot of work. Lots of weeding and watering and feeding, but I am so excited. The food really does taste better when you grow it yourself!

Shelby is starting to walk. She is such a funny little girl. She is just discovering that she likes to be the center of attention. She is quite the entertainer. She is lots of fun and I can't believe it has been almost a year since she graced us with her presence!

And then there is this wild man. He still loves his dad and counts down the hours til he comes home. He loves his sister and loves having a playmate. I have learned that I can't leave him alone for longer then a few minutes. I was having a primary meeting at my house a few weeks ago and noticed that he was nowhere to be seen. So I excused myself for a few minutes and ran to my bathroom to find him with a sharpie in one hand and my mascara in another hand. It was everywhere, floor, walls, cabinets, mirror, door, shower. I manged to clean most of it off. I thought of taking a picture, but honestly I don't want to remember it. Markers are off limits now.

In June we made a trip to Wyoming for Tyler's class reunion. We had such a fun time. We went to the parade and fireworks. Tyler's parents own a few greenhouses. I was in heaven. They were so sweet to send me home with anything I could fit in my car. I am also super excited about the peonies they dug out of their yard for me. I can't wait til next year so I can see them. I am just praying they come up. I also got a clematis I am so excited about to go over the little trellis/arbor they also gave me. It was fun to see Tylers family, we don't get to see them enough. We keep hoping that one day we will acquire a jet or something to make traveling much easier.

Tyler is staying busy with the cows and our house. He is a goof ball and always keeps us laughing. He is such a good dad and husband. He laughs at all my ideas. The funny thing is, he doesn't even know half of the stuff I want to do to this house. It will be pretty tricky getting him on board.

I ran a 5K a few weeks ago. My friend Annie convinced me I should do it with her. I trained for a few weeks with her and told myself I would just take it nice and easy. Being the competitive idiot I am, I totally killed myself. I don't know what is wrong with me, but I couldn't handle people passing me. I finished in 2nd place in my division with a time of 25.54 I am definitely feeling the pain this week. I can barely walk, let alone run. My kness are killing me, and my ankle swells whenever I run. I am such a dummy. What was I thinking....Not running for nearly 3 years and then running as hard as I could for 3 miles! I thought my competitiveness had died with my college days. Apparently I was wrong.

Where does the time go?

<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; And when did my children get so big. I feel like I have blinked and now Shelby is crawling and Aiden is talking up a storm. Here is just a little update on the family and what we have been up to.

Shelby has two teeth and has been crawling for a few weeks. She hates being on her knees and I wouldn't be surprised if she is walking in a month. She can stand without any support for a while until she gets a little too excited. She is a funny little girl and loves attention. She will squeal and sing to anyone who looks at her. She loves her big brother and screams the entire time she is awake while he is napping. She was definitely meant to be the younger sibling. She takes Aidens abuse with smiles and giggles.

Aiden is getting to be such a big boy. He loves to play hoops and run around outside, but his favorite thing to do is "feed tows"(cows) in the "big trutch" (truck) with his dad. It has become the sunday tradition. Aiden is starting to catch on. While he use to scream as I talked about going to church, now he associates feeding cows with church and I am sure that is all he talks about in Nursery.

As for Tyler, I have kept him pretty busy. I had been making plans all winter for my yard. I guess I failed to mention this to Tyler. One day I told him everyone was coming to rip apart our yard and put in new sprinklers. I don't know how excited he has been about the project, but it is coming along. A big thanks to Roger for helping...I mean doing...the sprinklers. And for the past few months Tyler has been faithfully pulling up sod where I want flower beds, hooking up the water, tilling up the garden and about a million other things.

My time is filled is yard work, primary and two kids. I wouldn't have it any other way. Life is good and I can't complain.

New Do

I decided it was time for a change. I always do this. I spend years growing my hair out and then on a whim, I chop it off. Well this time I CHOPPED it off. I can't even get myself to post pictures of it yet. I was going for something like this...
Or even this.....

But instead I got this.....

Funny story....I had just finished drying my new do, and I looked up in the mirror and about had a heart attack, yep...I thought Justin Bieber was starring back at me. I ran into the other room and said to Tyler, "I know who I look like!" He took one look at me and said, "Justin Bieber?" I started screaming and ran into the bathroom and put makeup on and a bow in my hair to regain a little femininity. This morining I found Tyler looking at me funny and after a while he said, "You really need to fix your hair, you really look like Justin Bieber again."

Good thing it is just hair and it will grow back. I am really enjoying how easy it is to get ready, but I find myself raiding my daughters hair bows just to feel like a girl. I guess if you want to see it, you may have to visit in person because I am going to hide from the camera for at least a month.

Kitchen Update

Many of you have been asking about the kitchen. Our primary program is done which I had the misfortune of being in charge of. That is a huge relief. But even better than that....I have gas!!! Okay, so that sounds like something not good and actually rather gross and something I would not be kissing people about, but I am talking about the natural stuff that makes cooking possible. I really cannot be more excited. And those of you who have been keeping track, yes it has been 6 months without a stove! But do you know what.. I don't even care about the time, I am just so glad I can put my crock pot away. It may take several days, but I think with a little practice I may be able to whip up an actual meal that both Aiden and Tyler will eat. So keep you distance for the next day or so or you may get a few smooches! SWAK!

Where does the time go?

I can't believe it is already the middle of October! These past couple of months have passed by in a blur, but we have all survived quite well. This little sweet heart is starting to grow like a weed. She is beginning to smile and has such a sweet personality. She is such a good baby and I feel so lucky to have her! She is much more alert and wants to be entertained all the time, so it is a good thing I have this guy below.
Aiden has adjusted very well to being a big brother. He loves to kiss Shelby and loves being mommy's helper. He loves cleaning up. He will often make a mess just to clean it up. He is a little like me in that way. Not that I love cleaning up, but I hate messes. Whenever Aiden spills anything he can't function until it is cleaned up. I was expecting the worse when it came to adding a sibling to this kids world, but he hardly seems affected by it. In fact, I would say he has become much easier to have around. He is Mr. Independent!

This boy has developed a few passions. He loves "b-ball." This includes basketball and baseball. He also loves his books! That is all we do all day long. Play b-ball and read books. You will notice his 'b-ball jammies' in the picture above...he won't let me take them off! He screams when it is time to get out of them and he about comes apart when we have to wash them. He is such a sweet heart and keeps us laughing.

We blessed Shelby at the beginning of last month. She is such a good baby and is a perfect addition to our family.

If you didn't get a call or a text blame it on Tyler, he was working the phones all night long. This labor was so different than with Aiden. I had a doctors appointment that afternoon and my doctor had told me to prepare to stay because he was a little concerned I would be dialated to a point that he wouldn't feel comfortable sending me home to Enterprise in fear that I wouldn't make it back to St. George in time to deliver. So prepare I did, all I did was drag my husband along with me and I was ready just in case. He sent me to the hospital because I was dialated 5cm and he wanted to induce me. Little did I know, I had been having contractions every three minutes all on my own. After being strapped to all the machines they informed me that I was in labor. Oh, I know what you are thinking..."she is so lucky, she didn't even feel the contractions." Well, I will have you know that it didn't last long. My doctor came and broke my water and on came the contractions, then of course the epidural. And from there on it was a piece of cake! I was so comfortable and I just sat back and waited for a few hours. A few pushes and we had us a perfect little girl.

Aiden loves his little sister and I hope that it stays that way. This has been my biggest worry since I found out I was pregnant. So far, so good. He loves to hold and kiss her and is so concerned if he cannot see her at all times. So all in all, life is good. I feel so blessed to have my own little family.

Note: If anything is a little unclear or doesn't make any sense.....I am a wee bit sleep deprived so please forgive and don't make fun of me!

New Kitchen!

Read this post backwards!
After:

Before: This is the best I could find. We have been very busy with a kitchen remodel. When I say we, I mostly mean Tyler. This reno began back in May and I can finally see the end. My brother redid the electrical-such a relief to have that done and feel like I have a safe house. Thanks Laramie, I owe you. My brother in law redid some of the plumbing. Thanks Roger! And my amazingly talented husband did the rest, all while still working 12-14 hour days, 6 days a week. Thanks Tyler for putting up with my nagging and for creating a perfect kitchen, you are the best! So it is not quite finished, I don't have a oven and a window is missing moulding and I want to cover the ugly pine by the door with beadboard, but I am finally ready to show it off. So with much blood sweat and tears (the tears being one of my only contributions) here is my beautiful kitchen. Please excuse the messy kitchen in the pictures, it is extremely clean in comparison to what it has looked like in the past. More pictures to come when painting, backsplash and everything else is finished!

Its a......

....Girl! I new it all along! I think I have a gift. There was no doubt in my mind that Aiden was going to be a boy. In fact, I had made his nursery bedding blue and brown when I was just a couple months pregnant because I was so sure. This pregnancy has been so different that I was certain it was a girl, although I was kind of hoping it would be a boy for Aiden. We really couldn't be happier with the news. I am so excited to start making girly stuff and go shopping for clothes (boys clothes are not exciting). I thought that once I was done with school I would be able to get so much done and I would blog regularly. I kept on telling myself that I had nothing to blog about but I realized I have missed so much. First of all Aiden's birthday was at the end of the year. I don't know why I never shared these pictures but it was definitely memorable. We spent it in Wyoming with the Emmetts. They have a tradition of getting your own cake on your first birthday. I wasn't sure how Aiden would react to this. It is so nice to drive 30 minutes and be able to take off your jacket and shoes and rub your feet in the sand.

I had this great plan for Valentines week. I was going to make festive meals each night. The first couple of nights it was fun, but then I started running out of ideas and some food takes a long time to try to shape into hearts. Needless to say, by the time it was Valentines Day, I had lost my excitement for the holiday and we just had regular food. Some of my creations: heart shaped scones, heart shaped pizza and spaghetti and heart shaped meatballs. I realize that some of you are really good cooks and are just laughing hysterically at my ideas and presentation of the meal, but I guess this is to make you all feel better about your own cooking. I was very impressed with myself.

Catching up

I know, I know.....I have heard it from a lot of you. I am sorry, but as you can tell, I am a huge procrastinator and am quickly running out of time. At least you will get yours before Christmas! I know this would have been much better had I enlisted my wonderful husbands help...he is the witty one, but once again...I am working against the clock!

Dear Family and Friends,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I apologize that many of you may not receive this letter until after Christmas but it has been a crazy month which is just in keeping with the busy year we have had. Last year at this time, we were waiting around hoping to have a baby on any day but Christmas. Aiden arrived kicking and screaming on the 29th of December. He is such a happy boy with an easy smile. He loves balls and girls and will smile and talk to any woman who walks by. He is just starting to take his first steps. He has been such a blessing in our lives. We can’t remember what life was like without him.
I took the spring semester off and tried my best to learn how to be a mom and wife at the same time. Tyler continued going to school at Utah State and working. We were expecting Tyler to graduate that semester, but we found out he lacked one class. So he took an online class this past fall and is now graduated!
At the beginning of summer, we got word that my dad’s boss was considering building a 5,000 cow dairy. My dad put in a good word for Tyler and after a few telephone calls we jumped in the car and moved to my hometown, Enterprise! Tyler has been working his brains out, but he is doing what he loves and that makes us all happy. They have about 2,000 cows now and they hope to be milking in a few months.
We had no place to live, so my parents let us live with them for a few months. In August we found a house we loved and could afford so we put in an offer and they accepted. It was a long and frustrating process that I don’t look forward to doing again, but on October 16th we became home owners! It is an old house built in 1920, but it has so much potential. We are so excited to put a little elbow grease into it and make it ours!
Unfortunately we have had no spare time at all and the house has just stayed exactly the same. Tyler has been crazy-busy with the cows, and I started student teaching this past fall. I love teaching, but I am definitely glad to be done. I have a deep respect for the working mom and have decided that I am not tough enough to do it. Luckily I found a great baby sitter who Aiden loved which made it a little easier. But I am happy to report, after months of lesson planning and portfolio creating, I am graduated!
While I wish I could report that the craziness stopped there….it didn’t. There was one thing left to do on the list: Aiden’s surgery. I really just wanted to get it over with, so I kept the doctor and appointment in Logan. A few days after we had both finished with school, we took off to Logan. We really had no idea what to expect, but luckily it turned out to be an extremely minor case and the doctor had to do very little at all. After about a day, Aiden was back to our happy, smiley boy.
It has been a wonderful year. We are so blessed to have such great family and friends. We love you all and wish you a memorable 2010.
Lots of Love,
The Emmetts
Tyler, Kaydee and Aiden

Baby on the Move

Aiden has found a new friend at Grandma's house. Friday they brought diary cows to the feed yard. We are all so excited. Tyler and my Dad have been working like crazy trying to get ready for the dairy cows. They ended up coming a little earlier than they expected, but it all worked out. The next step is to find a house. At this point I think I would take anything. I love living with my parents and we are having a blast, but I have always dreamed of the day when we could finally have a place to call our own. Surprisingly there is quite a few houses to choose from in E-town.

We recently went to a family reunion to the hot springs near Glendale, NV. Aiden had his first swimming experience. He had so much fun. It was perfect because the water wasn't freezing cold. We had a lot of fun spending time with family.

Tyler and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary. I even left Aiden with my mom. Yes that was the first time....and yes I know that I need to do that more. We went to the movie "UP" in 3D. It was a cute movie. Quite the picture, I know that, too ; )

For Father's Day I finally got Aiden's pictures taken. I am so happy with them. I was so worried about them because Aiden refused to take a nap before them and he was screaming as we walked into the place. After Tyler graduated in May he decided he wanted to get some more experience with the Dairy he has been working on and off with for the last couple of years, so we headed to Wyoming intending to be there for the summer. We discover that the normal 6 hour trip has now turned into an excruciating 9 hour trek, apparently 4 month old babies are not accustomed to driving straight through, no stops. Meanwhile we hear word of a Dairy being built literally a few miles away from my parents house. So we moved in with Tyler's parents, not wanting to get ourselves into any contracts we can't get out of in case an opportunity presents itself with this dairy back home. Tyler chats with the boss man and the boss man not only wants to talk with Tyler, but also me and Aiden, so we get in the car for another 9 hours and meet with the boss man and his family in Salt Lake. We chat and have a nice dinner, Tyler agrees to head down to Southern Utah to farm for this guy until we get the thumbs up on the dairy. But of course our stuff is still in Wyoming at his parents house, so we take off first thing in the morning for the trek back to Wyoming, yes another 9 hours! We stay for a few more days and then make the trip to Southern Utah, which is a total of about 14 hours, luckily we split that trip into two days! After this crazy month of driving, I have vowed to Aiden that I will give him a break for the rest of the summer! Poor Kid! He was such a good baby, but had definitely had enough of the car seat and now screams every time I try to put him in it. So now we are waiting to hear if this dairy is a for sure thing. Meanwhile Tyler is farming and we are living with my parents.

That was definitely the short version of the story. But to fill in some gaps, here are a few pictures of all the fun we have been having in Wyoming and Utah.

Aiden is now eating cereal and fruits & veggies, he loves it!

We had so much fun with our friends in Wyoming. Our friends Jake, Gretchen and their boy Owen live in Lovell, WY and our other friends Spence, Amber and their baby girl Mia were visiting family in Lovell. Not only do I have a freezer and my dryer on my back porch, I also have my husband make my baby mobiles out of a broken lamp, a hanger and yarn!! I guess this is a little less redneck than the previous mobile that Tyler created. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of my parents ceiling fan with ties, shirts, my brothers wrestling singlet and almost any other article of clothing you can think of hanging from each blade. Redneck or not, Aiden doesn't seem to mind. He stares at the thing for hours! Tyler has a talent for making anything out of nothing! I was ready to buy one, but Tyler informed me that he could make one. He has a habit of this, whenever I say that I want to buy a cute shelf or any crafty thing he always remarks on the price, "Are you kidding me, I could make that for less than ....." Sure enough he always pulls through! Am I lucky or what!?! If I weren't such a tight wad I might fight him on the matter. I really enjoy looking at my friends blogs and finally decided to get with the program. I would really appreciate any help that anyone can offer me. Just a little update for those who I haven't seen recently- we had a new member of our family join us on December 29. He is getting so big and we are having so much fun! We are attending Utah State in Logan, UT. Tyler is graduating in a few weeks. I took this semester off and will finish my student teaching in the fall. Tyler is trying to figure out what it is he wants to do with his degree exactly. I am really dreading going back to school, it has been so much fun having no worries except those of being a wife and mom. I am still trying to figure out where these last three months have gone. I can't believe that it is nearly summer!! I guess time flies when your having fun!
